Experience one of the most impressive wildlife encounters in the Andes on the Chonta Condor Flight Full-Day Tour from Cusco. Travel through traditional villages and beautiful mountain landscapes before reaching the community of Chonta, home to a privileged viewpoint overlooking the dramatic Apurímac Canyon.
After an approximately one-hour walk, you will arrive at the Chonta Condor Viewpoint, where you may observe Andean condors gliding above the canyon. These magnificent birds are among the largest flying birds in the world and hold deep spiritual significance in Andean culture.
Accompanied by a professional bilingual guide, you will learn about the condor’s natural habitat, behavior and cultural importance while enjoying panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. This experience is ideal for nature lovers, photographers and travelers looking for an authentic adventure beyond Cusco’s traditional tourist routes.
Our team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between approximately 5:00 and 5:30 a.m. Once the group is ready, we will begin the journey toward Limatambo and the community of Chonta.
During the drive, you will enjoy views of Andean valleys, agricultural fields, mountain ranges and traditional villages.
We will travel through the scenic landscapes west of Cusco toward Limatambo. Along the way, your guide will provide information about the region, local communities and the importance of the Andean condor.
The route offers excellent opportunities to appreciate the contrast between fertile valleys and rugged mountain scenery.
We will stop at a local restaurant to enjoy breakfast before continuing toward Chonta.
This will be an opportunity to recover energy, stay hydrated and prepare for the walk to the viewpoint.
After breakfast, we will continue by tourist transportation toward the community of Chonta.
Upon arrival, the guide will explain the walking route, safety recommendations and the best practices for observing wildlife without disturbing the condors.
We will begin an approximately one-hour walk through high-Andean landscapes toward the viewpoint.
The trail is considered accessible for most travelers, although the altitude and uneven terrain require comfortable footwear and a steady pace. Walking sticks will be available for additional support.
Upon reaching the viewpoint, we will settle into the designated observation area overlooking the Apurímac Canyon.
From this privileged location, you may see Andean condors rising on thermal air currents and gliding above the canyon. Your guide will explain their behavior, habitat and symbolic importance within Andean beliefs.
There will be time to enjoy the scenery, use binoculars and take photographs. As condors are wild animals, sightings and flight activity cannot be guaranteed and may vary according to weather and natural conditions.
After the observation period, we will walk back to the community of Chonta and continue to a local restaurant.
A traditional lunch will be served, allowing you to rest and enjoy regional flavors before the return journey.
After lunch, we will begin the drive back to Cusco.
Arrival is expected at approximately 6:30 p.m., although the schedule may vary depending on road conditions, weather and the pace of the group.
