Rainbow Mountain Full-Day Tour

4:00–4:30 a.m. — Hotel Pickup in Cusco

Our team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between approximately 4:00 and 4:30 a.m. Once the group is ready, we will begin the journey toward Cusipata, located south of the city.

During the drive, you can rest and enjoy the changing scenery as we leave Cusco and travel through traditional Andean villages, agricultural fields and mountain valleys.

Journey to Cusipata

The drive to Cusipata takes approximately two hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Along the way, your guide will explain the day’s itinerary, altitude precautions and important recommendations for completing the hike safely.

Breakfast in Cusipata

Upon arrival in Cusipata, we will stop at a local restaurant to enjoy a typical breakfast.

This is an important opportunity to eat, hydrate and prepare your clothing and equipment before continuing toward the trailhead.

Transfer to Chillihuani

After breakfast, we will continue by tourist transportation toward Chillihuani, the starting point of the Rainbow Mountain trek.

The road crosses remote high-Andean landscapes with panoramic views of mountains, grazing areas and local communities. Upon arrival, the guide will provide a final safety briefing and organize the group before beginning the walk.

Hike to Rainbow Mountain

We will begin an approximately one-hour-and-thirty-minute hike toward Rainbow Mountain. The exact walking time will depend on your pace, physical condition and weather conditions.

The trail gradually ascends through an impressive Andean landscape where you may observe llamas, alpacas and local residents carrying out their daily activities.

Because the route reaches approximately 5,000 meters above sea level, we will walk slowly and take regular breaks. Travelers who prefer additional assistance may rent a horse directly from local providers.

Exploration of Rainbow Mountain

Upon reaching the main viewpoint, you will have time to admire the naturally colored slopes of Vinicunca and the surrounding mountain scenery.

Your guide will explain how different minerals created the mountain’s distinctive red, yellow, green and purple tones. You will also learn about the geography, wildlife and cultural importance of the area.

There will be free time to rest, take photographs and enjoy the panoramic views. Weather conditions can change quickly, so visitors should follow the guide’s instructions at all times.

Return Hike

After exploring the viewpoint, we will begin the walk back to Chillihuani.

The descent is generally faster, but some sections may be steep, muddy or slippery. We recommend walking carefully and using the provided walking stick for additional support.

Upon reaching the trailhead, we will board our transportation and return to Cusipata.

Buffet Lunch in Cusipata

We will stop at a local tourist restaurant to enjoy a buffet lunch featuring a selection of Peruvian and regional dishes.

This will be an opportunity to rest, recover energy and share impressions of the trekking experience before returning to Cusco.

Return to Cusco

After lunch, we will begin the journey back to Cusco.

Arrival is expected between approximately 5:30 and 6:00 p.m., although the schedule may vary depending on weather, traffic and the pace of the group.
