Discover the extraordinary biodiversity of the Peruvian Amazon on this four-day adventure through Manu National Park. Travel from the high Andes of Cusco through the mysterious Cloud Forest before entering one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth.
Accompanied by a professional bilingual guide, you will explore tropical forests, navigate Amazonian rivers and visit wildlife-rich lagoons. Along the way, you may observe monkeys, colorful birds, capybaras, reptiles, amphibians and many other species living in their natural habitat.
The experience also includes a visit to the fascinating Parrot Clay Lick, forest hikes, canoe exploration at Machuwasi Lagoon and an exciting zip-line activity above the rainforest canopy. Each day offers a new opportunity to connect with the landscapes and wildlife of Manu.
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and begin our journey through the valleys located between the Andes Mountains. Along the way, we will pass picturesque rural communities and visit ancient pre-Inca tombs associated with the Lupaca culture.
Our next stop will be Paucartambo, a charming colonial town known for its traditional architecture and cultural importance. We will visit the local museum before continuing toward the Cloud Forest.
Lunch will be served along the route. As we descend through the Cloud Forest, we will enter an ecosystem filled with orchids, bromeliads, ferns and endemic wildlife. This area is home to species such as the spectacled bear and the Andean cock-of-the-rock, Peru’s national bird.
In the afternoon, we will continue to Pilcopata Inn, where we will enjoy dinner and spend our first night surrounded by the natural beauty of Manu.
After breakfast, we will take a guided walk through the forest to search for monkeys, tropical birds and other wildlife. We will then visit a local coca plantation and an animal rescue center.
Afterward, we will travel to Puerto Atalaya, located on the banks of the Alto Madre de Dios River at approximately 500 meters above sea level. From here, we will board a motorized boat and travel downriver toward Amazon Harpy Lodge.
During the boat journey, we may observe herons, vultures, cormorants and other riverside species. Upon arrival at the lodge, there will be time to relax, swim in the river and enjoy lunch.
In the afternoon, we will visit Machuwasi Lagoon. We will explore its peaceful waters aboard traditional rafts while looking for the prehistoric hoatzin, monkeys, capybaras and other Amazonian animals. We will return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.
Very early in the morning, we will travel by boat to the Parrot Clay Lick. At this natural mineral wall, different species of parrots and macaws gather to consume clay, which helps neutralize toxins in their diet.
Possible sightings include blue-headed parrots, white-eyed parakeets and chestnut-fronted macaws. After observing this impressive natural spectacle, we will return to the lodge for breakfast.
We will then begin a guided two- to three-hour hike through the rainforest. Our guide will explain the medicinal plants, trees, insects and wildlife found along the trail. After the hike, we will return to the lodge for lunch, followed by free time to relax or swim in the river.
In the afternoon, we will enjoy a zip-line adventure above the rainforest canopy. From platforms built high among the trees, you will experience panoramic views of the Amazon before descending by rappel from a height of approximately 25 meters.
After sunset, we will take a night walk through the forest in search of frogs, insects, spiders and other nocturnal creatures. We will finish the day with dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
After breakfast, we will board our boat and travel upriver to Puerto Atalaya. Our private transportation will be waiting to begin the return journey to Cusco.
We will stop for lunch along the way and enjoy the changing landscapes as we travel from the Amazon rainforest back toward the Andes.
Arrival in Cusco is scheduled between approximately 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
