Discover one of the most beautiful natural attractions in the Peruvian Andes on the Humantay Lake Full-Day Tour from Cusco. Surrounded by towering mountains and the snow-capped Salkantay peak, Humantay Lake is famous for its striking turquoise waters and spectacular high-Andean scenery.
The journey begins with an early departure from Cusco and a scenic drive to Mollepata, where you will enjoy breakfast before continuing to Soraypampa, the starting point of the hike. From there, you will trek uphill through impressive mountain landscapes until reaching the viewpoint overlooking Humantay Lake.
Accompanied by a professional bilingual guide, you will have time to rest, take photographs and appreciate the natural beauty of this sacred Andean destination. This tour is ideal for trekking enthusiasts, nature lovers and travelers seeking an unforgettable outdoor experience near Cusco.
Our team will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between approximately 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. Once the group is ready, we will begin the journey toward the district of Mollepata.
During the drive, you will enjoy views of Andean valleys, traditional communities, agricultural fields and mountains illuminated by the early morning light.
We will travel by tourist transportation through the beautiful landscapes of the Cusco region toward Mollepata.
The journey offers panoramic views of deep valleys, small villages and the surrounding mountain ranges. Your guide will provide information about the day’s itinerary, altitude conditions and safety recommendations.
Upon arrival in Mollepata, we will stop at a local tourist restaurant for breakfast.
This is an important opportunity to eat well, stay hydrated and prepare for the high-altitude hike. After breakfast, we will continue by vehicle toward Soraypampa.
We will travel from Mollepata to Soraypampa, located at the foot of the Salkantay mountain range.
Upon arrival, the guide will provide a short briefing about the route, hiking pace and altitude precautions. Travelers who prefer not to complete the entire hike on foot may arrange an optional horse directly with local providers.
We will begin the uphill trek toward Humantay Lake. The hike usually takes approximately one and a half to two hours, depending on the group’s pace, physical condition and weather.
The trail crosses open high-Andean terrain and offers increasingly impressive views of the surrounding mountains. Because of the altitude, we will walk slowly and take regular breaks.
Although the route is not technically difficult, the steep sections and reduced oxygen levels make the hike challenging for some travelers.
Upon reaching the viewpoint, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of Humantay Lake and its turquoise waters beneath the snow-covered peaks.
Your guide will explain the natural formation of the lake and its spiritual importance in Andean culture. You will have free time to rest, take photographs and enjoy the surrounding scenery.
Visitors must remain on the designated paths and avoid entering the water to protect this fragile ecosystem.
After exploring the lagoon, we will begin the return hike to Soraypampa.
The downhill walk generally takes less time, but travelers should proceed carefully because some sections may be steep, rocky or slippery.
Once we reach the vehicle, we will begin the journey back to Mollepata.
We will stop at a tourist restaurant in Mollepata to enjoy a buffet lunch featuring a selection of Peruvian and regional dishes.
This will be an opportunity to rest, recover energy and share impressions of the hike before returning to Cusco.
After lunch, we will begin the drive back to Cusco.
Arrival is expected at approximately 6:00 p.m., although the exact time may vary depending on traffic, weather conditions and the pace of the group.
